Top HaHeWi for January 2014 24 comments

Wow! What a week! How did you cope with the polar vortex?

The Deuce is finally going back to school tomorrow after being out last Friday and three days this week due to the winter conditions. Louisiana does not play ever since Katrina. If it looks like, feels like, smells like bad weather conditions…everything gets shut down. And thank goodness it did. Did you see the madness in Atlanta? In the four years that I lived there, it snowed at least once every year. Don’t get me started on when I lived in Indianapolis and Detroit. It has to be really bad for anything to shut down there. But they salt and shovel the roads to minimize problems. I don’t miss that at all!

True to form, we Cajuns here in Louisiana are referring to our slushy white stuff as SNEAUX. Here are some pics of how it looked at my house…

So…what is HaHeWi?

For my longtime BAW readers, you may remember when I posted tips on things to do to be (Ha)ppier, (He)althier, and (Wi)ser and called them HaHeWi Tips. As I mentioned in my 1 Year Blogiversary post, I’ll be doing a monthly reflection of things I accomplished with these traits.

The biggest HaHeWi of January for me was celebrating my 1 year Blogiversary. I started Being A Wordsmith on a whim and I am so glad I stuck with it. I am very proud of what I have created and continue to nurture. It has given me a huge network of support and motivated me to publish my novel, Acting On Her Behalf.

This month I began a new monthly feature on the blog called Rewind Repost. I do an update on a previous post. You can read that here.

I added an Instagram icon to the site and started using this form of social media more. I had to do a Google search for Instagram for Dummies. That’s how clueless I was about it.

I received an ALL CLEAR from my annual PET Scan. Yay!

Hubby and I had an awesome date night at our first Mardi Gras Ball. You can read more about that here.

Being A Wordsmith Stats for January 2014

HaHeWi that I’m looking forward to in February…

I’ll be co-hosting Turn It Up Tuesdays, a fun weekly linky party hosted by my friend Natasha at Epic Mommy Adventures, for the whole month. We go live on Mondays at 8:00 p.m. EST. So stop back by my page starting this Monday, February 3rd.

I just signed up with BookSneeze to get free books in exchange for a sponsored post. My first book is Happy Wives Club by Fawn Weaver. I have heard so many great things about this book and I can’t wait until it arrives in my mailbox.

House of Cards is back on NetFlix on February 14th.

Dallas is back on TNT on February 24th.

And Scandal is back on ABC on February 27th!

What were your top HaHeWi moments for January?

How was the weather in your area this week?

Will you stop by to link up for Turn It Up Tuesdays?

Are you on Instagram?

Stopping by from the Comment Love Tribe! I love your HaWeHi thought. I am definitely using this year to focus more on improving myself from within. Along with making improvements on all the things that create stress. Getting to the gym and getting financially in shape is on the top of my list as well!

Awesome goals, Lauren. We often forget to work on ourselves because we are so busy tending to others.

Love the idea of HaHeWi! I would say that my plan to be happier is to try to spend more time in the present, being thankful for my wonderful life. I think I’m on it with Healthier because I have been attending my yoga class twice a week which is hard for me to stick with. Wiser is my biggest challenge. I think I need to be a little more financially wise (don’t we all).

    • beingawordsmith Post author

I envy you with the yoga class. I want to try that. Yes, we all need to be a little more financially wise.

  • Ann Harrison

    I love this idea – HaHeWi! :->

Let’s see, for my Ha: My husband is getting over major work stress that was sending him on a mental/physical downward spiral. Things are looking up now! Thank goodness.

My He: Buying more organic fruits and veggies. Also trying to do more yoga. (Flexibility is not natural for me.)

And Wi: Hmm, well. I was seeing commercials for – a site to help keep your brain sharp so I’ve started their mental exercises every day. It’s fun, and gosh. I hope it works!

I am so very happy to connect with you through Turn It Up Tuesday. I really enjoy your writing Kimberly. And your Rewind Repost is a great idea!

I keep saying I am going to start yoga. Need to get on that. Thank you for stopping by, Ann. I appreciate your gracious comments.

First I would like to thank you for stopping by my blog. It was a nice surprise seeing a new face. You & your husband look snazzy! HaHeWi…what a word…love it♥ Well, my biggest HaHeWi moment is that one of my older designs has found a home in California. I was super geeked when I got the order. Can’t wait for the premier of Scandal! I just started following you on FB. When you get a chance I would love it if you stopped by my page as well.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Congratulations on the design order, Sonya! Such a great feeling to follow your passion and find success with it. LIKED your facebook page. Thank you!

  • Michell

Love your picture! You guys are a beautiful couple! Funniest quote ever! “it’s over there by that naked tree”! Bahahaa…too funny!! I didn’t know you lived in Atlanta and Detroit…so did I! As a matter of fact, my husband grew up there. Small world! Same here in South Carolina…everything shuts down! Better safe than sorry though! Have a good one Kimberly!

Yes I lived in 3 different states one year. So glad to be back in Louisiana, although I never thought I would move back. But my husband and I are both from here and both of our families are here. And we wanted Deuce to grow up around family like we did. Thanks Michell!

  • Britton

Ummm…I would say some great moments this month were just getting on track with my healthy living journey again. Also being out with the kids on the snow day was a great thing as well…SN: I can not WAIT until Scandal on the 27th!

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Getting back on track. That’s what’s great about the beginning of a new year. Thanks Britton!

  • Michelle

First of all, awesome picture! Secondly, I didn’t know you had so many snow days. We’ve only had one in the last couple of weeks, although we did also have a delay. The kids are wishing for more, and honestly I am too, because it would be nice for the mountains to get more of a base so the ski season can go on as long as possible. The only time I really enjoy skiing is in spring skiing. Too cold for me right now!

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Louisiana errs on the side of caution post-Katrina. And we just simply aren’t prepared for snow. The interstates were shut down for several days. Thanks Michelle.

  • Nellie @ Brooklyn Active Mama

I like this HaHeWi!! its awesome. You guys look really cute in that pic!! And I REALLY need to sit down and watch house of cards 🙂 I keep hearing such good things about this show!

  • Alison

Love the picture, Kimberly! You guys look marvelous.

Weather: bitter cold for most of the week. I was on a home-work/work-home schedule. 🙁

I will definitely swing by to check out Turn It Up Tuesdays!

My top Ha He Wi’s were:

Ha: Cutting back on the sense of duty and responsibility that drives me most of the time. Less truly is more. #focus

He: I’m back in the gym regularly after a hiatus since November! Yay!

Wi: Ignoring all the naysayers who were scaring me regarding a new staff member. I asked God to give me wisdom, and He did!

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Good for you, Alison. I need to use some of this exercise equipment my parents gave me. Thanks!

  • Natasha @ Epic Mommy Adventures

I got so used to seeing your picture with shorter hair that I got thrown off with your long hair in this picture! For half a second, I tried to figure out who was in the picture! You both look absolutely glamorous and looks like you had a lot of fun.

Thanks for having Turn It Up Tuesday as one of your HaHeWi goals in February. I look forward to a great month having you co-host!

And coincidentally, I just signed up for BookSneeze – I’ve been trying to read more in 2014! I look forward to reading your posts!

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Thanks, girl! I am too ashamed to even tell you how old the pics of me with short hair are. But they are the only professional ones that I have. My friend who is a photographer saw the pic on my book cover and shook her head. She said, “You need to update your pictures. I’ll do it for free!” So I have to schedule that ASAP.

  • Kate

You look so glamorous! It’s so hard for me to imagine thinking 2 inches is a lot of snow but I try to remember not everyone is blown over by the white stuff every year. Keep up the writing for idjdjiojsok or whatever 🙂

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Thanks Kate! It was nice to get all dressed up. Deuce had never seen snow before so he was ecstatic over the little bit that we got.
