The Busy Blogger’s Method to Effectively Participating in Linky Parties 44 comments

Participating in linky parties is a lot of fun. You meet talented bloggers from diverse backgrounds in and outside of the United States. It is one of the best ways to network and share your posts. But it can be time consuming. Here is how you can participate in various linky parties and still have time for blogging.

The Busy Blogger's Method to Effectively Participating in Linky Parties by Being A Wordsmith

1. Follow through with all of these steps one linky party at a time.

You will maximize your time if you effectively participate in Linky Party 1 before moving on to Linky Party 2, Linky Party 3 etc. Don’t link up, leave the site, and promise yourself that you will go back to finish up. You will forget.

2. Link up and leave a comment for the host.

Acknowledge the blogger of the site that you are linking to. If it’s a party that you link up to frequently and don’t want to sound redundant, share the link to the party on social media instead.

3. Edit your post with a backlink to the linky party.

This will help you keep track of the parties that you have linked a specific post to. It is also another way to acknowledge the host of the party. Simply copy the link address of the party, go to the post on your site and type “Linking to: {Linky Party Name}” at the end of the post, and then insert/paste the party link to the name.

4. Visit 2-3 posts from other bloggers.

This step is the main object of linky parties. Read a few posts from other participants. Leave a genuine comment and/or share their post. By doing this at that moment, you are saving valuable time instead of deferring it.

5. Link up to another party and repeat Steps 1-4.

Bonus tip: When linking up multiple posts to the same party, copy the backlinked text that you created on one post and paste it to the other posts that you link up.

Do you participate in linky parties? Which ones are your faves?

Do you prefer ones with thumbnail links or just text links?

Hi Kimberly, I appreciate your post since I host 2 parties a week know all that goes into building one and maintaining when they are live. Your post is great information for bloggers and I agree that finishing one party before moving on. I agree with comments about cluttering a post with blog banners but instead post a link to my “party page” for bloggers to visit and offer that link at the bottom of my parties and backlinks on posts that I am linking. Lol, I still find myself of multi-tasking with several windows open moving back and forth to write comments. I have to remind myself ~complete one at a time~

Thank you for this information, sharing and Pinned

Thank you for sharing this. I have been very lucky at getting noticed by the hosts of the link party, but I haven’t quite figured out the secret to getting traffic from them yet.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Your quality posts are why you are getting noticed, Jessica. It takes time to get the traffic. I just keep plugging away at it. LOL Thanks!

I am having a heck of a time with this too! It is so hard! I have minimal time on my computer at night and it can be hard choosing between doing a linky party or working on my blog and blog posts. Thanks for the tips I will keep these in mind.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Yes, we bloggers have so much on our plates. But it all works out. Thanks!

  • Wendy

Great information! I enjoy linkys, though I don’t have a good system yet. Often I will link a post but not have time to read right then, and leave the page open so I know to go back to it. Sometimes that happens the same day, sometimes it happens at 1 AM like right now! 🙂 I do like your tip to do it all at once; that would definitely save time. I started off adding linkup buttons on each post, but that got messy quickly. I do try to put a text link on each post, but I am also working on a linkup page. Thanks for the tips!

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Glad you enjoyed the post, Wendy! I am still guilty of opening a bunch of tabs trying to do more than one party. LOL It works so much better if you do one at a time.

  • Stacey

Thanks for the tips. I do try and do everything at once because I know that I just won’t remember. Depending on the day that can be quite a few link ups.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Linky parties have been very good to me. I host, co-host, linkup, network etc. I try my very best to put into it what I get out of it. Thanks Stacey!

  • Tanya @ Mom's Small Victories

As the host of Small Victories Sunday linkup, I appreciate each of these steps you are encouraging bloggers to do. I thought of writing something similar myself. I want to encourage people to visit one another and get a little disappointed when # of posts is less than the # of clicks from people visiting one another. That being said I do hope you will link up with us. The new party went live last night.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Thanks Tanya! Just linked up with Small Victories Sunday Linkup.

Thank you for sharing these tips regarding linky parties!
I never even thought about adding a text link on the bottom of each post that you submit to a linky party. I’m going to start doing that now!
I’ve added this post to my list (made on called “the ultimate list of resources for bloggers” 🙂 which is at (which will be embedded on my blog soon, for everyone to see.
Thank you for hosting your linky parties, they’re extremely helpful.
    Have a great weekend!

That sounds great, Heather. I appreciate that. Happy to connect with you!

Great tips! I have played around with linky parties for a couple of years off and own with several blogs. Great help to read these tips and will be using them.

Congratulations on being featured on Turn It Up Tuesday! Great tips. I have learned that I have to take my time and visit at least 2 other bloggers from each party while I’m at the party before moving on.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

I used to think making a list of the parties that I linked to and then going back to visit was the best way. It’s not! I always wound up with a large list that I couldn’t finish. Doing all of the tasks while still visiting the party is the best way. Thanks Free!

  • Mariet - Practicingnormal

Stopping by from Turn It Up Tuesday. Congratulations on being one of the feature posts. I learned with time that the best way is to link up, visit a few different blogs and then link up with the next party. I wish I read your tips when I started linking up. In the beginning I got really overwhelmed.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Thanks Mariet! I have to really focus on one linky party at a time or else I will have tabs open all over my computer. LOL

    • beingawordsmith Post author

I struggled as a new blogger with it. I picked up some tips along the way and I feel much better about participating. Thanks Julia!

  • Lisa @ Fun Money Finds

Great tips! I don’t link up unless I know I will have time to comment on at least 1-3 others. If not, I’ll never go back the next day.

  • Kelly @ Mum-bo-Jumbo

Stopping by as a Co-Host of Turn it Up Tuesday. Some great tips! Thanks so much for sharing – I needed a reminder about some of these!

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Thanks Kelly! I appreciate it. Happy to connect with you here and on social media.

  • Caryn

I just started becoming more active with Linky Parties so this post comes at a good time. I agree, I try and respond right away because if I don’t it just gets put off until a later time…and added to my massive to-do list.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

I truly wanted to participate the “right way” in linky parties and it was becoming very difficult. Once I developed a strategy, I felt better about it. Thanks Caryn!

  • Joi @ Rx Fitness Lady

Thanks for the tips! These days I can barely scroll my bloglovin much less join in and effectively participate in a linky party. However, when I do, I appreciate the thumbnails. I think I choose links based off of those more so than the titles. I think when linking titles, they should be creative even if it’s not the actual title bc when trying to choose, I ignore boring titles.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

I love the thumbnails too, girl. Especially if it’s a DIY or recipe post! Hope you are well, Joi.

I do participate in link parties… but not too many. I host one on Thursdays and that keeps me pretty busy with constructing it, hosting it, and commenting on posts that link up.

I think it’s so important to visit others who have linked up and I won’t participate if I don’t have time to do so.

I will admit though, I don’t like it when parties require you to place badges at the end of your post. I have critical content at the end of my posts and I would hate for it to get overlooked because there’s a whole bunch of different badges there. So, I have a blog hop page that indicates the blog hops I participate in.

    Thanks for sharing.

For the most part I just participate in ones that I have to write for. For me the most consistent one is Finish the Sentence Friday. Thumbs or links don’t matter to me. I suppose if it’s a food linkup then I want to see a picture but otherwise it doesn’t matter. I only link up when I have time to reciprocate. I don’t want to be one of those who don’t adhere #4 😉

    • beingawordsmith Post author

I keep saying that I am going to participate in Finish the Sentence Friday! Need to do that.

  • Julie

I love linky parties. I do like you said, one at a time. I’m not a fan of editing a post to list all the parties it was linked to – makes the post look unnecessarily cluttered. I just have a page for all the linky parties I participate in and show all their badges/linking images.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Thanks Julie! I hope you stop back by for some of the linky parties that I host.

  • Bernadyn

Great tips, I love linky parties but haven’t been doing as much as I want to lately because they do get time-consuming and now kids are on spring break! But yes, definitely good idea to finish up with one party before moving on to the next!

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Thank you, Bernadyn! Hope you’ll stop back by for some of the linky parties I host.

  • Rose

These are great tips! I have not done this in YEARS!! I just got back into blogging and want to start doing these again. I like the thumbnail version. It looks pretty and people are so creative. Looking forward to participating in a few hopefully soon.

    • beingawordsmith Post author

Thanks Rose! I host several linky parties currently. I hope you stop back by and link up.
