Olivia Pope Popcorn Recipe (Rigged)
My BAW readers know that I am a big fan of Food Network‘s Alton Brown and Scandal‘s Olivia Pope. So what better way to honor them both than by sharing a recipe that I learned from Alton that’s perfect for Olivia. And it’s rigged of course.
1/4 cup unpopped jumbo popcorn kernels
2 teaspoons cooking oil
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
stapler or Scotch tape
Mix popcorn kernels, oil, and salt. Pour into paper bag. Fold bag narrowly at the very top and staple shut once. Then place bag in the microwave on high for 2 minutes.
DON’T PANIC! One staple is too small to make sparks in the microwave. I trust Alton Brown’s advice and I do it this way 3-4 times a week without incident. However if you are uncomfortable stapling the bag, simply tape it shut at the very top.
Sometimes I add another seasoning or a pat of butter. There are lots of possibilities.
And as a true Scandalholic and Gladiator, I always pair it with a large glass of red wine.
How often do you eat popcorn?
My daddy likes BBQ sauce on his popcorn. Do you like any unusual toppings on yours?
Are you a fan of Scandal’s Olivia Pope and/or Food Network’s Alton Brown?
I love to put seasoned salt or powdered parmasan cheese on popcorn 🙂 I want to try this…but I am afraid of that staple! I guess it is tape for me 🙂
Ooh powdered parmesan cheese! That sounds great.
I’ve never seen Scandal but I know lots who do. Looks like a fun popcorn recipe to try. Thanks for sharing at TheWeekendSocial. Hope to see you again Thursday 9:00 PM EST. http://www.theKitchenChopper.com
Happy to do so! Glad I found your site through The Weekend Social. Your cooking journey sounds a lot like mine. Thanks!
I’ll definitely be trying this one out. I pinned it. Are you going to try the new Viola Davis show that comes on before Scandal?
I am absolutely on board with How to Get Away with Murder. Can’t wait to see Shonda Rhimes’ newest drama.
What a great idea and so easy. This reminds of an interview I saw with Judy Smith (the women who Scandal is based on). She said she had this weird surreal moment when she was watching the show and Olivia Pope was on the couch eating popcorn and she was doing the same!!!
I saw that interview too!
I love popcorn but I hate when they get stuck in my teeth it’s not cool lol. I must have my snacks for Scandal though because I can’t move an inch
The reveal of #whogotshot was mind blowing! Such a great show. Thanks, Kita.
I don’t at all, but all my peeps love it so this will be useful!
Hope they enjoy it!
I’m a Scandal fan too! I was a little worried when I read staple the bag.lol. However, if it came from Alton Brown and you also do it multiple times each week then I guess it is ok. 🙂
My mother still refuses to use a staple and just tapes it. LOL Thanks, Sonya.
My kids pop it on the stove…this might be a great alternative to regular microwave popping. We use a yummy organic butter infused olive oil on ours! It is so good! I’ve said it before, I love your rigged recipes!
Thanks, Michelle! We pop it on the stove sometimes too.
I may be the biggest Scandal fan EVER. I have gotten a good 10-15 friends to watch the show and everyone of them have loved it. I mean, what’s not to love?
Exactly, Stephanie! It’s so addicting.
I’m not a popcorn eater but this recipe sounds good.
Thanks, Louida!
I will be trying this popcorn recipe soon and its cute! “rigged”
Hope you enjoy it, Alvina!
I had to do a double take when I saw the word staple. LOL! I guess I just learned something new! We eat popcorn around here at least twice a week. The little one would eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner if we let her. I like to melt the honey butter spread on mine. As far as Scandal – LOVE IT!
I think that wine and popcorn go together perfectly!!! I go in spurts – sometimes I have it every few days and then I will go weeks without any.
Ok, I’ll admit it: I immediately panicked when I saw the word staple LOL
I learned the brown paper bag trick from an older lady at my former office. She used them to avoid all of the yucky chemicals in microwave popcorn. I was skeptical at first, but I enjoyed her version.
We are HUGE popcorn fans in this household! Air popped, sea salt, & allergy safe butter. Break out the juice boxes, and it is family movie night 🙂
My 6 year old taught my mother how to do it one day while I was out. Had no idea he remembered all the ingredients. That’s how easy it is. Thanks Jeanae!
Love it!! It absolutely is perfect for Olivia. And yes, been a fan since day 1 (when only me & like 10 others were watching & we were begging them to keep it.) LOL!!Look at it now.
I almost missed out on all the fabulousness. My husband taped the very first episode because I wasn’t interested. Then he watched it alone and told me I should give it a try. I still wasn’t hooked until after I saw the SECOND episode. Thanks Christy!
