Y’all know how I love The Real Housewives of Atlanta and all its hot mess! Season 7 is back with major changes when RHOA premieres on BRAVO Sunday, November 9, 2014. New cast members emerge while a previous heavy hitter is moved to recurring status.
If you saw the reunion episode for Season 6, you witnessed the knock-down-drag-out fight between Porsha Williams and Kenya Moore. I am not one to promote violence, but Kenya provoked the hell out of Porsha. Where I’m from, the phrase “Don’t start none, won’t be none” was prevalent. Sadly it seems only one Georgia Peach suffered because of the reunion altercation. Porsha is now a recurring character and is not featured in the main publicity photos for the new season. More on that later…
The only original Housewife on the show. I was really put off by how she treated Cynthia in the reunion show for Season 6. Previews for this new season show a more vulnerable NeNe trying to patch things up with her former BFF. Hmmm… She has just finished performing as Cirque du Soleil’s mistress of ceremonies in “Zumanity” in Las Vegas. She is also starring on Broadway as the Wicked Stepmother in “Cinderella” later this month.
Newlywed Kandi is always working hard–professionally and personally. Her husband Todd’s college-age daughter, Kaela, moved in with them recently. However Todd has been working in L.A. as an executive producer for the new reality show, Hollywood Divas. Lisa Wu, a former original RHOA cast member, is featured on that show. Kandi and Todd are also trying to have a baby amid their hectic schedules.
What a time Phaedra has had on-screen and off-screen. Professionally her life is going well, she recently earned her Mortuary Science degree. She did two fitness videos called PHINE BODY and has been doing book signings around the country for her book, Secrets of a Southern Belle. However her husband Apollo Nida is now serving an eight-year sentence for bank fraud charges. Word is on the day that he was due to report to prison, he confronted Phaedra at their home in a rage. And it was all caught on tape while RHOA was being filmed. They are now in the midst of a divorce. Phaedra endured Apollo’s first incarceration but now has her two young sons to consider.
Cynthia has gotten her groove back! With her health problems solved, she is focusing on her modeling agency and her marriage to outspoken Peter–who is pursuing business ventures with Porsha Williams’ ex Kordell Stewart. The one thing not going Cynthia’s way is her relationship with former BFF NeNe. This causes Cynthia to spend more time with the other housewives. And we all know that NeNe doesn’t like to share. LOL
Lawd! What can I say about Kenya? I’m not mad at how she continues to stay relevant because of her antics on the show and on social media. But how she goes about things does not always sit right with me. Nonetheless, Kenya is still looking for Mr. Right and the best way to have a child. Word is she’s reveling in the disintegration of Phaedra and Apollo’s marriage and his incarceration.
Porsha really came into her own during Season 6. But as I indicated before, she is now on recurring status with the show. That’s no after battery charges stemming from the Season 6 reunion taping. However none of that is holding her back. She is one of several co-hosts with Ricky Smiley on Dish Nation. And I think she meshes pretty well with the other radio personalities if I do say so myself. She released a single called “Flatline” which I think is actually pretty good.
The New Cast Members
I know of Claudia Jordan from her days as a model on The Price is Right, a contestant on NBC’s All-Star Celebrity Apprentice, and as a co-host on Jamie Foxx’s Sirius XM radio station, The Foxxhole. She will be a major player this season. She has recently moved to Atlanta and is still working in TV and radio. She is a co-host on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, a hit radio show. And a contributor for HLN’s Dr. Drew On Call. The previews are showing major shade and major beef between Claudia and NeNe. This newest cast member, a former beauty pageant winner, loves the social scene and guess who is one of her BFFs? Kenya!
Demetria McKinney will be a new addition to the cast on a recurring basis. She is an accomplished actress, singer, and single mom raising a 14 year old son. She is best known for her role as on the hit TBS sitcom Tyler Perry’s House of Payne among many other Tyler Perry productions. She also currently co-stars on TV One‘s The Rickey Smiley Show and has a recurring role on Lifetime’s Devious Maids. Demetria has been dating TV executive Roger Bobb for several years and the previews show that Kenya has some interest in him.
All of these women are strong individuals in their own right. And I am loving the number of things that many of them have in common: Rickey Smiley, Celebrity Apprentice, motherhood, beauty pageants, and more. It’s going to be one helluva season!
